Another interesting threat/opportunity for the mainstream media is the rise of community news aggregators like http://www.newsbump.net

Excellent overview and clarification of the value of blogs and their inherent technologies.

PRWeb.com (http://www.prweb.com) has been integrating most of the technologies present in blogs for the last 5+ years, beginning with RSS syndication.

Recently the company added Technorati Tags (http://prweb.com/releases/technoratitags/socialmedia/prweb406019.htm) and earlier this year, Trackbacks in Press Releases (http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/2/prweb349374.htm).

As a heavy user of the PRWeb platform, it's been interesting to see how my clients leverage these social media tools to expand their PR effectiveness.

As David McInnis has been preaching as of late "the gap between PR and Marketing has not just narrowed - it's overlapping in a big way".

We're seeing much of that ourselves. Clients are leveraging online PR to aggressively penetrate the blogsphere and increase online visibility. Is that a PR chore or a Marketing effort?

So far, it's been a major boost to their quantifiable results.

Your thoughts?
